Frequently asked questions

›What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It keeps high quality at about half the size of JPG, but many Windows PCs, websites and apps cannot open it.

›Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using your own device. Your photos never leave your computer or phone, so there is nothing we could store or leak.

›Should I choose JPG or PNG?

JPG is smaller and works everywhere, which makes it best for sharing and uploading. PNG is lossless and larger; choose it when you need to edit the image further without quality loss.

›Is there a limit on the number of files?

There is no fixed limit. Because conversion uses your device's memory, very large batches may be slower on older phones. Converting in groups of 50 or so works well.

›How can I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC?

Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos will be saved as JPG. Existing HEIC photos can be converted here.
